In the fifth consecutive week of Lebanon's mass protests, hundreds of employees of state-owned mobile companies Alfa and touch have protested to demand caretaker Telecommunications Minister Mohamed Choucair sign their collective work contract.
A number of employee representatives met with Choucair Monday, who agreed to sign the collective contract as it was in previous years, according to the head of the employees syndicate Charbel Nawwar. However, he told local TV channel LBCI that the contract did not guarantee the employees' job security if the sector was privatized, as proposed by the government as part of a list of reforms announced on Oct. 21 in an attempt to appease angry protesters.
